    How to

Image Resizer: how it works in 3 steps

Drag one or more images into the box or click to choose them.

    2. Choose size and format

Set the new size in pixels or percent, or reduce only the file size. Optionally enter a maximum file size in KB.

    3. Download

Download each image on its own or all of them together as a ZIP file.

Resizing images: pixel size and file size

Phone photos often have 12 megapixels or more and are several megabytes in size. For emails, websites or upload forms that is usually far too much. Resizing reduces the pixel size and with it the file size, often by 80 to 95 percent, without any visible difference on screen.

    Which size is right?

    • Email and messengers: 1280 to 1600 pixels on the longest side
    • Websites and blogs: 1200 to 1920 pixels
    • Online shops and classifieds: 1000 to 1600 pixels
    • Profile pictures and thumbnails: 400 to 800 pixels

    JPG, PNG or WebP?

JPG is ideal for photos and creates small files. PNG suits graphics, logos and screenshots with sharp edges or transparency. WebP is a modern format for websites and is usually even smaller than JPG.

Resize an image to a specific file size

Many upload forms only accept files up to a certain size, for example 500 KB or 1 MB. Enter this value under “Max. file size in KB”. The tool then finds the best quality that keeps the image below that limit, and only reduces the pixels if there is no other way.

    The right quality

A quality of 80 to 85 percent is almost always the best compromise for photos: much smaller files without visible loss of quality.

    FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Image Resizer tool

    Is resizing free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of images.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your images are never sent to a server.

    Will the image be distorted?

No. The aspect ratio is always kept. You only set one side or a percentage, and the other side is calculated automatically.

Why is my PNG file barely smaller?

PNG is lossless and not well suited to photos. Choose JPG or WebP for photos and the file gets much smaller.

How do I reduce an image to 500 KB or 1 MB?

Enter the limit under “Max. file size in KB”, for example 500 or 1000, and click “Resize images”. The tool picks the quality automatically so the image stays below it.

Can I reduce only the file size without changing the pixels?

Yes. Under “New size” choose “File size only (same pixels)”. Width and height stay the same, only the file gets smaller.

    Can I also enlarge images?

By default images are not enlarged, because that does not improve quality. If you still want to, untick “Don’t enlarge”.

Is metadata such as GPS data kept?

No. Resizing removes metadata such as camera and GPS data. That protects your privacy when you share photos.
